Common Questions About Medicaid Counseling

Do I need a referral from my doctor to start counseling?

Most LHCC plans do not require a physician referral to begin outpatient mental health counseling, but we recommend confirming with your LHCC member services line. Our team is also happy to help you sort this out before your first appointment.

What if I’m not sure whether I have LHCC?

Check your insurance card. If it says Louisiana Health Care Connections, LHCC, or Centene, you likely have this plan. You can also call the member services number on the back of your card, or simply call us, and we’ll help you figure it out together.

Can I use LHCC for my child’s therapy?

Yes. Abby Webb accepts LHCC and specializes in working with children ages 3–12. If your child is on Medicaid through LHCC, they may be eligible for play therapy and other evidence-based services covered by your plan.

Is telehealth covered by LHCC?

In many cases, yes! LHCC covers telehealth mental health services. This means your child or family member can participate in counseling sessions from home via a secure video platform. We’ll confirm your specific telehealth eligibility when you contact us.

What if I have questions or don’t know where to start?

Just call us. Our team at Alexandria Counseling is here to walk you through every step of the process, from verifying your benefits to booking your first session. We never want cost or confusion to be the reason someone doesn’t get the support they need.

Healing Is Possible, and It Starts Here.

At Alexandria Counseling, we believe that the door to healing should be open to everyone. That’s why we’re committed to providing accessible, high-quality therapy to the Alexandria community, including clients covered by Louisiana Health Care Connections Medicaid.
